Image-Guided Spine Intervention
Published in Hardcover by W B Saunders (19 November, 2002)
Average review score:

Xiulu Ruan, MDI would like to thank and congratulate Dr. Fenton and Dr. Czervionke for the wonderful work in making this book available to all spine intervention specialists. I am a Physiatrist, currently receiving pain management fellowship training in the Dept. of Anesthesiology, Univ. of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Of all the interventional pain management books I have read, "Image- Guided Spine Intervention" is the best. The fine details of relavent anatomic consideration supplimented by numerous high quality illustrations, three-dimensional surface rendered CT images, MR images, step-by-step illustrations of needle placement as well as state-of-the-art radiographic images all make ths book a must-to-have for those who want to become spine interventionists. The Chapters on SNRB, Transforaminal ESI, RFA, Discogrphy, IDET are totally outstanding. My personal experience with reading this book as well as utilizing the technique taught during procedures has been incredible. Additionally, the inclusion of possible complications, routine postprocedure care, patient follow up, sample dictation and CPT codes for the procedures dicussed makes it a very practical manual as well. I could not be happier with this most wonderful book!

Images in Black: 150 Years of Black Collectibles
Published in Paperback by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. (October, 1990)
Average review score:

Gorgeous, full-color book with a wealth of information, picsI'd say this was a must for those interested in Black collectibles. It has everything I look for in a good collector's book - a wealth of full-color photos on every page, all of decent size and many even larger than one would expect. The variety of items represented covers the range from toys, games, books and banks to advertising, music, Golliwoggs, cards, flat art, household items, clocks, watches and more. There is a basic, if not overly detailed, price guide and a fair amount of historical information. Unless the reader is already an expert in the history and value of Black collectibles, I'd say there will be plenty of new information here. It was a delight just looking through this one- although, as expected, some of the collectibles may be seen as offensive to contemporary eyes (or one would hope), representing a view of Black Americans that was taken for granted when the items were made.

Images of the Past
Published in Paperback by Mayfield Publishing Company (January, 1993)
Average review score:

Wonderful bookThis is a wonderful book on archaeology from a world wide perspective. Techniques and time periods are well illustrated with examples taken from work done all over the world. Some of the most famous archeological sites are discussed: Olduvai, Zhoukoudien, Sanidar Cave, Jericho, Cahokia, Teotihuacan, Tikal, Moche, Cuzco, Uruk, Giza, An-Yang, Great Zimbabwe, Knossos, and others possibly more familiar to those with other areas of archaeological interest. This would make a lovely addition to the library of those who have more specialized interests but who want to know more about other areas or who enjoy learning new things about archaeology itself. It's definitely a book I'll re-read, and I don't generally do that.

A book review on this Exciting!!! bookThis book is about how a salior called Robert Ross tries to escape from Singapore when the Japanese Army invades. His ship is called the Machiko after his wife. It is an excellent book and it is ideal for anybody who wants to find out about World War II. It is also great for people who love an exciting read. I didn't like the ending because I thought it was too short and wasn't descriptive enough. I think this is a great book in general.

In the Wings: A Memoir
Published in Hardcover by Barricade Books (May, 1999)
Average review score:

Getting to Know YouReading "In the Wings" is an exciting discovery. This is not your run-of-the-mill Hollywood celebrity puff piece, although the cares and joys of the celebrity life are all there. Rather, Bermuda-born Diana Douglas Darrid chronicles the life of a working actress who was married to a superstar, Kirk Douglas, and give birth to another, Michael Douglas. After her divorce from Kirk, she was a single mother of two boys, Michael and Joel, whom she raised alone for some years while continuing her career in film, theater and television. This is a real page-turner, an honest and candid look into the life of a marvelous woman, the kind of person you would wish to have as a friend.

The Incredible Lou Ferrigno
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (April, 1982)
Average review score:

Great BookWell Lou Ferrigno benefitted the most by playing the Hulk. In the following years as we read in this book, he took speech lessons to improve his speaking skills. Kept working as an actor and body builder, got married and had two kids, and at last has a cameo apperance in the HUlk movie. So his life has come full circle and we find that his real life story is just as incredible then any he ever played on film.

The Indian Frontier, 1763-1846 (Histories of the American Frontier)
Published in Hardcover by University of New Mexico Press (October, 1902)
Average review score:

Excellent History with a Different PerspectiveThis is not a standard listing of Indian wars when describing what happened to the Native American Indians but what happened to them from the encroachment of several nations. The Americans, British, Spanish and French all had effects on the natives creating different policies and treaties. The book starts from the end of the French Indian War when the French become neutralized opening westward expansion. But the book delves immediately into the Spanish attempts to conquer the west particularly Texas, New Mexico and California. Using missions and the Catholic Church to create Missions or Presidios, the Spanish make attempts to subjugate the natives by forcing their religion on them and virtually making them slaves. Many tribes withdraw into the interior and the effects of disease are devastating reducing the populations tremendously. Hurt notes the enterprising trading of the Chinooks and how they were able to deal with the multiple cultures of Europeans. The author notes that Jefferson originated the plan to move natives west of the Mississippi. President Jackson manipulated breaking treaties on technical grounds arguing that State's rights could nullify Federal treaties forcing the removal of the Creeks, Choctaws, and Cherokees. Chickasaw and others. Fascinating that the author pinpoints how government leaders created divisions between full bloods and mixed bloods and among the splinter groiups of tribes to get legal signings that did not always represent the majority. Also, the author speaks of the attempts at confederation of several tribes such as the Shawnees, Miamis, Delewares, Wyandots, and Ottawas etc. to defeat white expansion. Success is shocking initially to the Americans as General Arthur St. Clair's army suffers a far worse defeat casualty wise than Custer's troop as he loses 623 dead and 250 wounded in 1791. Inevitably, the flourishing attempts of resistance are put down requiring natives to move further west causing their own conflicts with the plains Indians. In addition, the book covers accounts of tribes in conflict such as the Comanche who fought the Apache and the some unique forms of tolerance. An example is the New Mexicans tolerated the Comanche raiding Mexico for horses passing through New Mexico as long as the Comanche didn't attack them. Certainly stressed Mexican and American relations. Gruesome account of how the Mexican government attempted to use rewards fostering professional scalp hunters to eradicate the Apache who preyed on their undermanned frontier. This book sets the course of understanding how the natives were force to move or in some cases eradicated due to disease from white contact. This is an excellent book for a platform into the Plains Indian conflicts.
